Benefits of Newborn Chiropractic Examination

Blog

When a newborn cries following birth, it is a sign of good health. However, getting a newborn started in its new and strange environment goes beyond triggering the first cry. An infant chiropractic examination is a critical step, which allows a doctor to determine whether a child is healthy.

Even though you may be relieved that the examination only takes a few minutes, you may still wonder why your child needs a chiropractic examination in the first place. Read on to learn more.

1. Spinal Misalignment at Birth

Child delivery is a traumatic event for newborns, which is one of the reasons infants cry immediately after birth. Given the pelvic muscle contractions and a baby's positioning during labour, a newborn might still suffer from spinal misalignment. In fact, experts opine that even the easiest of deliveries can still cause trauma to the spinal and hip bones. Unfortunately, the misalignments might go undetected without a chiropractor's input. An infant chiropractic examination can reveal such misalignments and suggest corrective measures.

2. Inherited Skeletal Weaknesses

Joint and spinal weaknesses can be inherited the same way a child inherits bodily characteristics of both parents. Some of the spinal and joint defects, deformities, and anomalies are difficult to detect during birth. Although they might seem irrelevant to a newborn's health, the abnormalities affect a baby's growth into childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. Therefore, the sooner inherited skeletal problems and weaknesses are identified and corrected, the better it is for an infant's growth. Infant chiropractic examination allows for the identification of inherited issues and prescription of treatment. Consequently, it minimizes or nullifies future effects of genetic problems.

3. Promote Healthy Digestion

A newborn's first drink immediately after birth is breast milk. Therefore, every mother wants her newborn to digest the milk easily if you consider an infant's weak digestive system. Notably, newborns who do not go through chiropractic examination are likely to suffer from colic pain, often characterized by excessive crying and fussiness. A chiropractic examination is designed to align the digestive system in a manner that allows for easy digestion. Chiropractic care can be administered to a colicky baby a few days or weeks after birth. Most importantly, your newborn deserves a comfortable start to life, and chiropractic examination immediately after delivery makes it possible. In fact, early and subsequent infant chiropractic care can help your child transition from soft foods to hard foods easily and faster.

Walking Proof: Singing The Praises Of Chiropractors

As a chiropractor's receptionist, I have become a walking advertisement for the profession. I run marathons as a hobby and also study part-time. You can imagine the mental and physical strain I impose on my body daily. Pounding the pavements, long hours sitting at a computer and the stress of preparing for exams were taking their toll before I started this job. Fortunately, the lovely clinic where I work provides chiropractic treatments for free. I can honestly say that my aches are almost gone and I have never felt so relaxed, yet alert, when doing exams. I had never considered visiting a chiropractor before, but now I actively recruit friends and family when they complain about ailments. I hope the entries on this blog alert everyone to the broad range of services that chiropractors offer and dispel any concerns. I am certainly a very happy convert!
